Formally speaking I see this project as being an investigation into pattern and contour. I am interested in the types of line I can achieve using the medium of etching. I see the image of the bird I am working with as a metaphor for people. All the same but very different. A comment on urban culture.
I have been researching the use of stripes in fashion and how they were seen as a sign of visual deviation in medieval times, eg: for pirates, prostitutes and prisoners.
I plan to develop a discussion on identity, and cultural differences and similarities using the bird as a channel.
